You insert the tool and rivnut into the hole in your chassis and then turn the end nut which 'pulls' on the rivnut to compress it and tighten onto the chassis - leaving you with a captive nut

By adding this resistor ACROSS the earth ( normally brown ) and the indicator signal wire this then makes the ECU and flasher unit think that all is OK
